About Tomas Teskey (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine)
Tomas Teskey has been a veterinarian in Arizona (USA) since 1995 and has specialized in holistic horse health and healing ever since. He describes himself as a “veterinary philosopher” because he looks at the horse as a whole – including its interaction with the environment. This applies in particular to hooves and teeth, which is why Tomas has focused specifically on hoof health and equine dentistry. Tomas has also consistently pursued this holistic approach as a founding member of the non-profit project “We Are Herd” (www.weareherd.org).
Tomas Teskey is also the author of the book “Insight to Equus, Holistic Veterinary Perspectives on Health and Healing” (the book can also be purchased at the course). You can find out more about Tomas on his website www.insighttoequus.com.
What to expect at the clinic with Tomas Teskey
The first day consists of interactive lectures on hooves and posture. Tomas takes a holistic approach here, because everything interacts and you have to see (and treat/address) “the big picture”.
In the afternoon, the program includes practical sessions: Tomas demonstrates the live trim of 1-2 horses directly at the course location, as well as the dissection of a horse’s leg/hoof. This makes it possible to understand the connections at first hand.
The second day focuses on teeth, digestion, nutrition and behavior. First, the horse’s teeth are explained in theory: how are they structured, what problems can arise, why do teeth need to be checked regularly and, if necessary, worked on? The theoretical part is followed by practical demonstrations with the horses on site: the horses are first analyzed from head to hoof before being worked on live by Tomas.
On the third day, we dive deeper into the topics: Tomas will present his own case studies to show how positively horses‘ lives can be transformed if problems are not viewed in isolation, but the entire living being and its environment are taken into account.
Advanced considerations for hoof trimming are also presented: Clues, bone, tissue, bodywork and presentation of a special pilot study to measure torque and torsion of the feet. The treatment of hoof diseases, e.g. abscesses, will also be part of the interactive exchange.
And, of course, the third day will also focus on the connections throughout the body: why can hoof problems lead to dental problems? What role do fasciae play in this? The topic of nutrition will also be explored in depth, for example which herbs can be helpful in certain situations.
Questions can be asked and discussions encouraged throughout the weekend – the seminar thrives on a lively exchange and the evaluation of different ideas and experiences. As the clinic is very interactive, the schedule and/or topics may be adapted slightly.
Whom the clinic is for
Whether amateur or professional: anyone interested in holistic horse health is welcome to attend this seminar. Interested horse owners, hoof trimmers/hoofcare professionals, veterinarians, physiotherapists, behavioral specialists, riding instructors, etc.: everyone brings a different personal background and contributes with their input to an interesting exchange during the weekend.
There are no specific prerequisites, but the more familiar you are with the anatomy of the horse, the more you will benefit from this weekend.

The clinic is held in English. Tomas Teskey uses easy-to-understand language and speaks at a comfortable pace.
